Back. To you.

Way Back No. 1

Where did I go?

You came here from page 38. This is the deeper version, and it costs nothing. No account. No email. Nothing to sign.

Put the book down for one minute.

Sixty seconds.

And let the question ask itself,
without answering it.

Don’t fix it.
Don’t solve it.
Just let it be asked.

You’ve been answering your whole life.
This time, just listen.

From chapter one

The minute, held for you.

You should not also have to be the stopwatch. Press begin and the page will keep the time. There is no counter and nothing to watch. When the minute is done, it will tell you softly.

What usually happens

At about twenty seconds, you will want to answer. That is the trained part of you arriving on time. Let it stand there. It does not need to be argued with.

At about forty seconds, you may reach for your phone. Not because you are bored. Because the quiet started working.

And if your mind wanders off and comes back, that was not a failure. That was the practice. The coming back is the whole thing.

Why this one is first

You have spent years being asked questions that wanted an answer inside a second. Ready. Useful. Sure.

A question you do not answer behaves differently. It stops being a task. It becomes a door.

Sixty seconds is short enough that you will actually do it, and long enough that the performing runs out.

One line to carry

Where did I go?

Carry it today. Do not answer it. Let it ask itself again whenever the noise drops.

If someone came to mind

Some people read this page and think of one person the whole way through.
If that happened, send them back to themselves. It costs them nothing.

The deeper versions of all fourteen are here, one per chapter. Your copy number opens them, from the day your book arrives.

One more is open to everyone: The Hold. It keeps a grievance for a day, then asks one question.
