Way Back No. 2
The Gap
This week, catch yourself once.
One “I’m good”
that isn’t quite true.
Don’t correct it.
Don’t confess to the barista.
Just notice it.
Notice the half-second gap
between what you said
and what you felt.
That gap is not a flaw.
That gap is a door.
The rest of this book
is about walking through it.
From chapter two
What usually happens
You will miss the first few. That is normal. The gap is quick, and you have had years of practice papering over it.
Then one lands. Mid-sentence, you hear yourself say fine, and feel the small distance between the word and the truth. Nothing to fix. You saw it. That was the whole assignment.
One line to carry
That gap is a door.
If someone came to mind
Some people read this page and think of one person the whole way through.
If that happened, send them back to themselves. It costs them nothing.
The other Ways Back are in their chapters, one per chapter, all of them free. This one is yours whenever you need it.
